Preliminary to working
on the pews, the hymnals are stacked in the chancel area. |
|
Pews in various stages
of undress. Below the foam is revealed. To the right cotton padding in
the seat is seen under the red velvet. Also noticeable is the velvet
remaining at the top. |

 |
Upholstery is secured
far under the seat of the pew (above). Some of the nails and staples
here will actually be ground off with a grinder. |
|
Wooden strips securing
the velvet are removed (above) from the back of the pews to allow the
top upholstery to be pulled loose (right). |
 |
 |
The strips are then
carefully cleaned of nails (left) and stacked for use later with the new
upholstery (below). |

 |
Pews totally stripped
to the bare wood. Please, pastor, keep the sermon short. |
