Boy Scout Troop 2 8 4 Boy Scout Troop 284 is sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Irwin. The troop meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 PM in the social rooms. Our Scoutmaster is Sam Hensell. Committee members are Jack Cycak, Keith Johnson, Diane Johnson, Ken Tamm, and Dennis Walker.
Troop 284 is active year-round:
- boating
- church community service projects
- hiking
- repelling
- snow boarding
- snow skiing
- summer camp at Camp Conestoga
- visiting our state representatives in Harrisburg
- Washington D.C. trip
- water skiing
- working on merit badges
- year-round camping
are some of the boys' favorite activities.
In 2005, the troop planned and coordinated with assistance from the Presbyterian Disaster Relief Committee, the Irwin Salvation Army Unit, the Deacons, and other church members; two Katrina Relief mission trips to southern Alabama. This quickly became a church and community activity. A third trip is being planned for March, 2006.
