Assessing the need for more
information but not wanting to raise false hopes, the Pastor
Nominating Committee (PNC) shares the following. We are not at the
end of our search. As the committee continues it work with many new
PIFs (Pastor Information Forms) which are resumes coming to our
attention, the PNC is continuing the process with two candidates
beyond the first interview. One interview was held by phone and the
other in person. We have asked each candidate’s Executive Presbyter
to speak with our Executive Presbyter, Dr. Douglas Holben. This is a
required part of the vetting process. While we are waiting for that
information, we are contacting the references as given to us by each
candidate and arranging second interviews. We visited the
geographically closer candidate this past Sunday to hear a sermon
and observe an entire worship service under his leading. The other
candidate is sending sermons/worship services for our evaluation.
Each has asked research questions of us and we are collecting the
data and sending it by email and regular postal service depending
upon the availability of electronically formatted data. Both
candidates present interesting possibilities to us and from their
reactions appear interested in our position of senior pastor. We can
not say that these are the only two candidates that we see as having
the potential to be our next called pastor. As a team we have
persistently and wholeheartedly sought God’s guidance in this
pastoral search. Therefore, as we are preparing for the second round
of interviews we ask that the congregation continue to support this
process with its prayers. Please pray for discernment and the Lord’s
guidance for the members of the PNC, the candidates (#’s 174 and
177), their spouses and family members. Please pray for a match that
will bring glory and honor to the Lord at and through the members of
the First Presbyterian Church of Irwin. And as one of these two
candidates said, “…pray for growth and outreach that the
congregation matures in its faith and service.”
Your Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Shelly Ball, Cathy Brosnahan, Ginny Chedrick, Aaron Greer, Tom
Hughes, Martha Pattullo, Bob Schweikert, Taska Smola, and Mary

Process Briefing:
Approximately 10% of the PIFs (that
tells who the pastor is) are self referred. The pastor has heard
about our church or seen the Church Information Form (CIF - that
tells who we are) and sent his/her PIF to us directly. These pastors
are encouraged to reapply through Presbyterian Church (USA) (PCUSA)
to follow formal protocol. Those that do are then considered.
The other 90% of PIFs received from
the PCUSA have been matched via computer program to our CIF. The
software addresses amongst other factors the following in making the
match:
-
Years of experience
-
Salary expectations
-
Skills
The latter is based on what skills are
listed as top priority on the CIF and how skills indicated on the
individual PIFs stack up to these. Currently, we have identified
three skills as top priority:
-
Preaching
-
Pastoral care
-
Administration
All PIFs received are anonymous (name
blacked out) to further assure an unbiased assessment based solely
on the skills and experience of the applicants.

Please continue to include the PNC in your prayers
and keep in mind
that patience is the key.
Thank you and God bless you.
