Good Morning and Merry Christmas from your PNC!!!

As an articulate preacher, this person will proclaim God's Word with energy and passion; someone who will preach the word of God with enthusiasm and conviction, bringing our congregation to new levels of vitality. As Head of Staff, our pastor must be a competent administrator with the ability to organize and enable others in the work of the church. We seek a dynamic leader capable of inspiring the congregation to develop and build deeper relationships with Jesus Christ and to attract others to Him. Our pastor will be a compassionate spiritual leader, ensuring the health and stability of the congregation, and being firm when the situation requires it. As an amazingly diverse congregation with many gifts, talents and abilities, our Senior Pastor will assist members in discovering, developing and using their spiritual gifts. Our pastor will make emergency, hospital and shut-in visits. As a congregation falling short of our desired financial goals, we are looking for a pastor with insight and vision regarding stewardship of time, talent and finances. The congregation is praying for a pastor who will patiently and lovingly facilitate positive changes within us, challenging us to learn and grow. The pastor’s duties will also include leading and organizing worship services, weddings, funerals, and Moderator of the Session.

The pastor must be able to walk on water, give eyesight to the blind and raise the dead!!! Except for that last sentence, what I just read to you is the position description from our church information form [(A.  Major Responsibilities)] for our next pastor and Head of Staff. It is most certainly a tall order. It is most certainly difficult to find all of those wonderful characteristics in one individual.

Your PNC has been diligently meeting once or twice a week and communicating with each other almost daily for the last 15 months, conforming to the Book of Order requirements for a Pastor Search:

  • assessing our church and community

  • identifying our goals

  • developing our Church Information Form

  • writing a report to Session

  • receiving and reviewing 145 Pastor Information Forms

  • listening to sermon tapes

  • contacting references

  • and conducting telephone and personal interviews.

It has been time consuming, sometimes tedious and sometimes frustrating. It has also been enlightening as we have narrowed our field of candidates from 10 or 12 a month ago to what now is a field of 5 or 6 candidates. We collectively as a committee feel we are closing in on what we earnestly hope and pray could be our next Senior Pastor and Head of Staff.

We come before you now asking for your continued prayer support and patience. We know that you are more than ready for a new pastor and that time is of the essence. We also know that it is crucial that we not make a mistake or choose in haste. Please pray for us. Please pray for our church. Please pray for the candidates that we are considering. Pray for the gifts of discernment, wisdom and patience for all. We eagerly await the person and timing of God's choosing. If we ever needed your prayers, we truly need them now. Thank you.
