The First Presbyterian Church of Irwin is a foundation of believers seeking to proclaim the love of God through the joyous message of Jesus Christ. Building on each member's spiritual gifts, we spread His message of love and hope throughout our congregation and community.

"ONE THING HAVE I DESIRED OF THE LORD,
THAT WILL I SEEK AFTER; THAT I MAY DWELL
IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD ALL THE DAYS
OF MY LIFE, TO BEHOLD THE BEAUTY OF THE
LORD, AND TO INQUIRE IN HIS TEMPLE."
PSALM 27.4

It's coming!    It's coming!   WHAT is coming??

The TWEENS, I.N.C. PICNIC!

WHEN:   Sunday, May 20, 11:15 AM to 2:30 PM
WHERE: Oak Hollow Park

If you have kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews ages: finishing 3rd grade this spring through 6th grade (and our teen helpers) - PLEASE make sure they get to the TWEEN Picnic! They will have a great time. J

We will meet in the church parking lot at 11:15 AM and leave around 11:30 AM to head to Oak Hollow Park. We'll be taking the church van and our cars, so we should have plenty of room. We will have "picnic food" (hot dogs, fruit, chips, etc. and S'MORES) and play games in the park. We'll bring all the kids back to the church by 2:30 PM for pick up.

Our TWEENS, I.N.C. group is a club meant for 4th to 6th graders only, but we are opening up this event to our kids who will be "graduating" from 3rd grade in May. They can now be a part of TWEENS!

We know that our spring is full of sports and activities, but we think it's important that our kids grow in friendships with other "church kids". So we hope you take this chance to send your kids to the Tween picnic - a time for playing outdoors and fellowship! See Robin or Lori for permission slips. Let us know if you have any questions.

Blessings,

Robin & Lori

Please RSVP by Friday, May 18, so we know how many to plan for.

NORWIN AREA WORKCAMP NEWS

WE NEED YOUR HELP… 420 youth and their adult leaders are getting ready to head to Irwin in 3 short months, if we do not begin to raise a significant amount of money in the next 6 weeks, or do not come up with enough projects and complete inspection on them in the next month, we are going to have to cancel this project. This is an incredibly large task that can only be completed with everyone’s help and support. If we draw our resources together, then the rewards of our efforts will greatly exceed the cost. The more the workers, the less the load they bear. How wonderful of a thing to say that the First Presbyterian Church of Irwin, as a family, brought aide to 75 homes in our community and helped teach 420 youth around the country what it means to serve God.

Crunch time is approaching for fundraising and application collection and surveying. Heather Baker continues to work hard to coordinate many fundraising projects and events for the next couple of months. Below you will find details on upcoming events. Also you will notice in the Perry Addition a thermometer, which will be measure the progress we are making in reaching our goal of $20,000.

We are still heavily relying on money raised from businesses, local organizations and foundations to fund a significant portion of the money. If you have any connections or experience that can help us in this area, please take the time to contact us. We continue to have sponsorship packages available to businesses and organizations for their support.

We are also still looking for homeowners who are elderly, disabled, or low-income to qualify as clients for this project. If you, your neighbor, friend or family member qualifies for help and is in need of basic home repairs, please fill out an application and return it to the church ASAP! The deadline for applications has passed but as long as we continue to need projects, we will continue to take applications.

From the Mission Committee...

The Presbyterian Church (USA) 220th General Assembly comes to Pittsburgh June 30th through July 7th at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. You may worship with, study with and observe the proceedings of the delegates as they decide polity for your church. This is the biennial meeting of the highest governing body in the Presbyterian Church. The General assembly meetings are open and anyone may register and attend. This is an opportunity for all of us to learn more about our denomination and to see its decision making process in action. People will travel from all across the country to attend the General Assembly and it’s here...right in or own back yard.

The New Wilmington Mission Conference will be held again this summer on the campus of Westminster College. The dates are July 21st through the 28th. Junior and Senior High Youth can share fellowship and learn of the Christian church world-wide from those missionaries who actively do God’s work. Families also may attend this exciting conference. First Presbyterian has scholarship funds available. Contact the office for more information or visit www.nwmission.org.

In all you consider and do, remember the mission of the church is joyful participation in Christ’s ongoing life and work.

Mark your calendars now
the VBS date has been set!

The Vacation Bible School this year will be held the week of August 6-10, 2012 (6:00 to 8:30 PM). I know that this is much later in the summer than previous years, but due to the Group Workcamp Project and the availability of our VBS program leaders, the later date was necessary.

This year we will be offering the elementary school aged children of our congregation and community a unique opportunity… A true Christian Church camp experience in their own back yard!

Staff members from Crestfield Camp and Conference Center (a Presbyterian Church Camp in Slippery Rock, PA) will be coming to our church and for one week will be bringing a summer day camp experience to us. This is a great opportunity for children who have never been to camp before, who do not like to spend the night away from home or children who just can’t get enough of the camp experience. The Theme for the week will be Secrets of the Kingdom: Jesus’ Parables.

The program will be free to all youth. Crestfield will be leading the programs for 1st-6th Grade youth. Our own church staff will be responsible for providing an adapted program for Kindergarten and children 4 years of age.

In the future we will be looking for adult and teens to help the Crestfield staff and to chaperon the groups from activity to activity. We will also be looking for people to work with our Pre-K program.

We are looking for individuals or families who would be willing to house the Crestfield Staff (probably 2 people, 1 male and 1 female) the week of the day camp program. If you are willing to open your home to these individuals, please contact Lauren Brown (724-863-5910)
