Senior Pastor Opportunity

The First Presbyterian Church of Irwin is looking for a new Senior Pastor and we can’t wait to welcome the person who God sends to lead and love our congregation!
Irwin is located 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh in the scenic Laurel Highlands and enjoys strong ties to the surrounding community. We are a unique area in that our combined townships of Irwin, North Irwin and North Huntingdon (called “Norwin”) create a successful united neighborhood of friends, family and businesses. The public schools in the Irwin/North Huntingdon/North Irwin area are highly rated. The Irwin environment has the feel of a small town with direct access to all of the extensive resources and services that the City of Pittsburgh has to offer.
As a suburb of Pittsburgh, with a population of approximately 4,000 residents, Irwin is in Westmoreland County and is considered part of The Laurel Highlands. We think it’s one of the best places to live in Pennsylvania! Living in our community offers residents an urban/suburban feel. Many families and young professionals live in the Irwin area and work in the surrounding suburbs and downtown Pittsburgh, making the area an excellent place to reside and work. We have a strong, active Rotary Club and Irwin Business & Professional Association, each planning a wide array of events on Main Street, including car cruises, a Chili and Wing Cookoff, summer Farmer’s Markets, Concerts in the Park, a hugely popular Light-Up Night, Music/Gig on Main, The Christmas Cookie Tour and so much more.
Having a close proximity to downtown Pittsburgh, our town is near to all the vibrancy of the city, lots of green spaces and access to top-ranking hospitals and healthcare. Pittsburgh has the second-most hospitals and second-most doctors per capita of any in the nation. Ground-breaking technology and medical discoveries put Pittsburgh at the top of the list for health care and senior services with UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh being an internationally recognized center for pediatric care, ranked #8 in the 2023 US News and World Report ratings of children’s hospitals.
We have been honored as one of the nation’s “most liveable cities,” rated for art, culture, livability, business and economy for several years. A city built on innovation, Pittsburgh continues to push the envelope with major contributions in technology, education, medicine and beyond.
Although we are a suburb of the city, we all consider ourselves “Pittsburghers” at heart! We are proud of our community, vast heritages and of our Pittsburgh, as we live in a region full of history, great food, and many fun activities. The “Steel City,” surrounded by the Three Rivers, is full of beautiful bridges and its suburbs and countryside have some unique traits of its own. Pittsburgh is home to world-class museums and cultural arts institutions, a delightful zoo, sprawling public parks, an historic family amusement park and one of the world’s most recognizable cityscapes.
Additionally, National Geographic has listed Pittsburgh among 30 of the Best Cities in the United States based on ideals believed to lead to happiness, including: green spaces, galleries, coffee shops, breweries, music and concert venues, shopping, topnotch universities, great healthcare, the ability to cheer on our beloved national sports teams and more!
We are passionate about sports! With our Pittsburgh Steelers winning their fourth Super Bowl in six years-having a total of SIX Super Bowl wins, the five-time Stanley Cup Champion Penguins, the USL league River Hounds soccer team, our top-ranking D1 universities of The University of Pittsburgh (Pitt Panthers), Duquesne University (Dukes), the nearby Big 10 Penn State Nittany Lions, and the Pittsburgh Pirates having won the World Series five times, Pittsburgh has earned the nickname, “City of Champions.”
Living near Pittsburgh, our families have access to incredible higher education opportunities with the top three ranked Pittsburgh area universities being Duquesne University, The University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. A great education beyond high school is offered at more than twenty private and public universities and colleges, all being within 15-75 miles from the heart of our community.
Pittsburgh is a vibrant, mid-sized city that has the feel of a small town. The strength of our nearby Norwin community lies in the friendliness of our people and the beauty of its landscape. The Irwin area is a unique place, with plenty to offer visitors and residents alike.
We seek a Senior Pastor who will work within the framework of our vision, dealing in a harmonious manner with the leadership of our congregation. We desire a pastor to encourage and lead our congregation with a positive attitude, scriptural teaching and ability to raise up leaders from among the membership.
